From the Desk of Bob McNett……

The McNett Agency Will Emphasize Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans……

Many of us Baby Boomers are within a few years of the big birthday…..65 years of age! Or, we’ve already arrived or surpassed it.

Along with counting our gray hairs, or counting any hairs we left on our head, this birthday brings another major event…..qualification for Medicare as our primary source of health insurance coverage.

Some folks are under the impression that Medicare is voluntary….that someone has to “opt in” for Medicare coverage. Medicare is not voluntary. When you turn age 65, Medicare Part A(hospital coverage) takes effect, whether you want it to or not.

Part B (doctor coverage) and Part D (drug coverage) are optional, and you must pay a premium to add these coverages to your basic Medicare coverage.

Even if you have Parts A, B and D, Medicare does not cover everything. There are deductibles and coinsurance to meet. Plus, if you have lengthy hospital stays, you may actually run out of Medicare benefits.

So, is Medicare enough? Or do you need a Medicare Supplement (also known as Medigap.)

A Medigap policy covers where Medicare leaves off, covering deductibles and co-insurance, and will actually serve as emergency coverage if your hospital stay uses all your available Medicare benefits.

We have always offered Medigap plans to our clients, but I decided to put a new emphasis on these plans because we are seeing this large segment of my fellow Baby Boomers now “coming of age.”

One thing I have observed is that most people facing decisions as to what Medicare benefits to participate in, and whether they need supplemental coverage, find themselves unprepared to make these decisions. It is not something that is easy to educate your self on.

Therefore, we are going to proactively use our years of experience in this field to offer counseling to our existing and new clients facing important Medicare decisions.

There is no charge for our services. We counsel our clients on the various coverages available, how to enroll, and, if they need Medigap coverage, we are paid a commission from the several insurance companies that we offer these plans through.

So, don’t try to go it alone. Let The McNett Agency help you make this a smoother transition. Refer your friends and relatives as well! You can be assured we will take good care of them.
